Surah Al Hijr Introduction:

Surah الحِجْر (Al-Hijr), often translated as The Rocky Tract or The Rock, is the 15th chapter of the Qur’an. Period of Revelation:

Surah Al-Hijr was revealed during the later Makkan period, before the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ migrated to Madinah.At that time, opposition to the message had intensified. Because many opponents mocked or denied the message, and because the Prophet ﷺ faced heavy trials, this Surah offered solace and consolation to the believers, reminding them of past peoples who were destroyed for rejecting truth.

The revelation of Surah Al-Hijr serves several interlinked purposes:
To console the Prophet ﷺ and believers facing ridicule, hardship, and resistance. It reassures that these trials are part of the prophetic mission and that Allah’s support is near, To warn disbelievers and rejecters through the stories of past nations (e.g. Thamud, Lot, Salih) showing how rejection of truth led to ruin and To affirm the preservation and integrity of the Qur’an, with the strong message, “We have revealed the Reminder (Qur’an) and We will guard it.” (Verse 9)
